Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Honiara have conducted a mediation in relation to the murder incident at Borderline on 26 December 2022.
The mediation was between the families of the deceased and the suspect at the Naha police station.
The mediation was guided by RSIPF Superintendent William Foufaka and Honiara City Operations Manager Inspector Tex Tafoa.
Superintendent William Foufaka says, the mediation was done in respect of Melanesian culture and to maintain peace between parties involved.
Police thanked both parties for their understanding, cooperation and acceptance.
Both parties were advised to refrain from taking law into their own hands while police investigate the matter.
Police have arrested a 47-year-old male person in relation to the death of the 27-year-old deceased male person.
Supervising Director NCID Inspector Leslie Simao says, the deceased and other boys were drinking kwaso (homebrew) along the road at Kobito 3 and Borderline area when approached by the suspect asking for lighter. The boys replied by saying they have no no lighter but the suspect insisted and later left.
The suspect then returned with a long bush knife and approached the boys angrily and struck the deceased on his left neck and he fell to the ground.
His friends sought assistance from the community and the deceased was rushed to the National Referral Hospital and later pronounced dead.
The suspect was arrested and brought before the Honiara Central Magistratesโ Court on 27 December 2022 and now remanded at Rove Correctional Facility.
He will reappear in court on 10 January 2023.
