The Australian High Commissioner has encouraged women business owners and women thinking of starting a business to join the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA).

Andrew Bryne made the statement today during celebrations to mark the tenth Anniversary of the Solomon Islands Women in Business.

The theme for the anniversary is “Strengthening Women Through Business.”

Mr Bryne said women business owners and women who are thinking of owning a business should join SIWIBA.

“So I’d encourage all women in Solomon Islands who are considering starting up a business or who are engaged in a business no matter how small or modest to consider joining SIWIBA. It’s growing from only about six members ten years ago to 3 or 400 today.”

Meanwhile, SIWIBA President Dalcy Tekulu says SIWIBA strives to achieve the economic empowerment of women.

“SIWIBA strives to address economic empowerment for women. The vision of SIWIBA is to inspire women to realise their full potential, importance and status for women to be recognised and respected in Solomon Islands society. To achieve that, we have our aims and objectives to develop opportunities for women to participate in business at all levels.”
