Vehicle owners and drivers are reminded to be responsible when driving on the roads of Honiara.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast reiterated the reminder at his weekly media conference.

He says police have attended several traffic incidents last weekend, all of which seemed to be drink-drive related.

Mr Prendergast reiterates, it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the roads are safe.

“All incidents seem to be drink-driving related. I just want to remind that we need to be responsible using the roads, it’snot only us that will be affected but also the other road users and I think this is a very serious issue. People get seriously hurt in accidents, they get killed and it’s important that we all do our best to make sure all road users, you know, pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and passengers are safe, so it’s a responsibility for all of us.”

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner confirmed two people have been arrested and charged on Wednesday this week for careless driving, involving a defective vehicle, which caused a motor collision.

“There was an accident yesterday at the Kola Ridge junction, where two people were arrested and charged with careless driving and driving a defective motor vehicle after a collision involving three vehicles. The repair of our vehicles is also our responsibility. Defective motor vehicles can be a danger to other road users and I just again urge everyone to be sensible and responsible about how they use the roads.”
