LASER LIGHTS, THREAT TO AIRCRAFTS
Incidents of high-powered laser lights flashed on aircraft arriving and departing Henderson Airport at night is on the rise – a potentially risky practice.
Police reports say the incidents occur immediately after take-offs and before transitional flights.
Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast says this is an offence and a very dangerous practice.
“We’ve had some incidents recently where laser lights have been shone on incming flights at night at the Honiara Internationa Airport. This is an offence, it’s very dangerous and our community policing team have been on the ground to conduct awareness meetings with the surrounding areas at henderson.”
