President of the Solomon Islands Football Association (SIFF) Willie Lai has paid tribute to one of the former Solomon Islands football legend the late John Whitley who was called to rest over the weekend.

Speaking on Tok Sports program, Mr. Lai says Solomon Islands has lost one of its football legends. He describes the late Whitley as a true football legend and a great football leader.

“He’s truly a legend because since my youth years I’ve seen him play and he’s really good and he became a legend then not only that but he’s also a leader in football, you know. He’s been a coach for the national team and an executive for the Makira Football Association so you know, he’s contributed greatly to football.”

Late John Whitley hails from Baraulu, Roviana, Western Province.
