THOUSANDS CONVERGED TO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY

The country’s 38th Independence Celebration today saw thousands of people converged at Lawson Tama for the formal celebration.

Themed “Embracing Peace for Nation Building,” the official program began with a police parade, the Prime Minister’s national speech, presentation of honours and awards and entertainment by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Band.

As part of the celebration, a live string band programme was also featured on the National Radio, SIBC.

The six-hour program brought together local string bands from throughout the country.

It features independence and local songs based on the independence theme.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Gao Bugotu Samuel Manetoali described the string band programme as “very good”.

Mr Manetoali said this is how our cultures and traditions are revived through music adding, promoting our independence theme through such program is very encouraging.
