ARNAVON CONSERVATIONISTS HELP TURTLES TO NEST
As sea turtle pick seasons gets underway from June to August local rangers from Arnavon Community Marine Conservation Area (ACMCA) have taken the initiative to help the nesting sea turtles in cleaning up its beaches.
There is two nesting peak session for sea turtle – the other coming later, from around November to January.
Sea turtle hatchlings have it tough. They face a host of predators on both lands and in the ocean.
While buried in the sand, the turtle eggs are subject to attack from predators.
This is where the need for the activity was seen by the local rangers.
Mr. John Siroko, monthly supervisor organized his colleagues to remove marine debris from nesting beaches and make the sea turtles environment clean.
Mr. Siroko says nationally, they have at least six sites for turtle conservation- Arnavon being a major one.
