Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has officially opened the Solomon Islands High Commission office in Wellington, New Zealand.

Speaking during the opening, Prime Minister Lilo said the establishment of the country’s permanent diplomatic mission in New Zealand has been long overdue.

He said it is important to exercise the country’s influence through the physical presence of Solomon Islands Missions in the wider global community.

He also said the Mission’s primary role is to serve the interest of Solomon Islands in New Zealand, in areas of mutual interest and to ensure cordial relations between both countries.

The Prime Minister also said New Zealand is an important development partner and Solomon Islands is the largest recipient of NZAID assistance.

The Solomon Islands High Commission Office in Wellington, New Zealand brings the total overseas missions to ten.
