ANDREW BYRNE SAYS SI RECOVERY IS ON THE RIGHT PATH
The Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Andrew Byrne, says the recovery process is moving in the right direction.
Speaking to Radio Australia, Mr Byrne says the infrastructure is slowly being repaired and more contracts are being let for further repairs to some of the bridges and roads outside Honiara.
However, Mr Byrne says there are still some 5-thousand people living in temporary shelter.
Heavy rains about a month ago caused flash flooding that led to damage worth millions of dollars. Twenty-three people were killed.
The Australian government is providing 3-million dollars in assistance for flood recovery efforts in the Solomon Islands.
