Gov’t is working on managing livelihood issues during ‘State of emergency’ period

The National Government through its Livelihood Sector Committee is working to ensure people’s livelihood is properly managed following the declaration of emergency orders last week.

There were keys areas identified in Government’s Consolidated Situation Report Number 02 issued yesterday.

The report says, the committee through the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI) and
Chinese Association are currently assessing current food stock levels in Honiara including central and satellite markets.

This is to gauge locally grown food stock and fish as information collected is used to conduct tracing to identify farmers and determined assistance required.

The committee is also assessing food distribution in the event of a lockdown. It is looking at safe food consolidation and distribution sites within Honiara and its periphery.

It proposes that some companies are likely to maintain their operations in the event of a lockdown and may be used for distribution of much needed food items.

SIBC News understands, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare early this week announced a possible mock lockdown for Honiara.
