HAZARD MAPPING TRAINING UNDERWAY AT KOMPORO
A hazard mapping training is currently underway at the Komporo Early childhood school in North Guadalcanal.
The training is the first of a seven-month project under the Disaster Risk Education and Emergency Project belonging to Save the Children.
The project targets the recovery and rehabilitation of schools affected by the April flash floods.
Team leader Freda Folasi says the training’s objectives include identifying which parts of the school’s community is vulnerable to hazards or natural disasters.
She says the training will also assist teachers and the community on what to do before, during and after disasters happen and help the school with preparedness and drills.
Ms Folasi says Komporo Early Childhood school is one out of four schools in North Guadalcanal affected by the April flash floods to be allocated a temporary child-friendly space school building.
