Six candidates to contest the South Choiseul National By-Election
Six candidates have been nominated to contest the upcoming South Choiseul National By-Election on May 19th, 2021.
Chief Electoral Officer, Mrs. Jane Waetara confirmed that five candidates have been nominated for the by-election at the closure of nomination yesterday.
Of the six, one is a female candidate.
The candidates are Jackson Kiloe contesting under the People First Party, Sammy Qalo contesting as an Independent candidate, and Luxton Bauro Koraua contesting as an Independent candidate.
The others are Tozen Leokana contesting as an Independent candidate, Nanette Tutua contesting as an Independent candidate, and Amos Papaqui Qurusu who also contesting as an Independent candidate.
The Returning officers will validate their eligibility to contest in the by-election after the further assessment was done on their applications.
A statement from the Electoral office says, the 14 days nomination period opened on March 24th and closed on April 7th.
It says a candidate who wishes to withdraw his/her candidacy must inform the Returning Officer in writing before tomorrow, April 9th.
The returning officer will conduct a ballot paper order draw to determine the candidates’ position on the ballot paper by April 10th at the Malangono Nomination Centre, South Choiseul Constituency.
The by-election will be conducted along with two provincial wards by-elections in Choiseul and Temotu Provinces.
