SOLOMON ISLANDS TO LAUNCH ITS FIRST SGVB CLINIC

The country will launch its first clinic for survivors of sexual gender-based violence, SGBV, Tuesday this week.
Called “SEIF PLES”, it is the first clinic in the Solomon Islands to offer comprehensive care to survivors of sexual gender-based violence.
A statement from the clinic’s administration says the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, the Ministry of Police, National Security and Corrections and the Honiara City Council will launch and deliver the clinic ‘as one’.
The statement says “SEIF PLES” has been established according to the recommendations made in the Solomon Islands Family Health and Safety Study of 2010 from the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs which documented that 64 percent of women from the Solomon Islands report experiencing SGBV at least once in their lifetime.
The Clinic will provide 24 hour access to nurses, 24-7 National Toll Free Helpline (referrals), Psychosocial First Aid, Advocacy and SGBV resources and Facilitated access to forensics.
