Miss Solomon Islands in Apia for 2023 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant
The 2023 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant has commenced in Apia, Samoa with Miss Solomon Islands Tiare Haro already engaged in activities ahead of the crowning night later this week.
Ms. Haro left the country on Thursday last week to participate in the weeklong event after being crowned Miss Solomon Islands in December 2022.
In an interview with SIBC, Solomon Host Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Miss Solomon Islands Pageant Ms. Joyce Konofilia said Ms. Haro is confident for this year’s pageant.
“Miss Solomon Islands is very confident; she is doing really well so far. Even though she is the youngest she has shown confidence and has interacted well with the other contestants.”
“She is working hard to promote our country as well as trying to win the competition this year.”
As part of the weeklong program, the Pageant contestants attended Church service at the Satapuala Methodist Church yesterday morning followed by an opening briefing where Miss Haro was officially named as contestant number 3.
Miss Solomon Islands along with her fellow contestants left for Savaii, Samoa’s largest Island this morning and will return tomorrow. Upon their return they will take part in a charity visit on Wednesday, followed by a speech competition on Thursday, which is the first competing category for the pageant.
Ms. Konofilia said preparations are well underway for Miss Solomon Islands’ participation in the different categories.
“Miss Solomon Islands picked Tourism as her topic for the speech competition, and we are working on it now. As for other preparations, most of them have already been done back home like her dresses. Now we are just finalizing everything and working with the committee here to finalize the float parade, which will happen on Friday morning.”
“Our media team is working on lighting and stage requirements for her talents and our seamstress is working on the final touches for her dresses.”
Miss Solomon Islands is currently leading the Vodafone People’s Choice Award with over 8,000 votes.
Solomon Islanders are encouraged to support by voting.
“We need the support of our people back home, especially the online voting which is still going on and we are still leading. So please continue to support by voting on the Miss Pacific Islands page on Facebook,” Ms. Konifilia said.
A 12-member delegation is in Samoa to support Miss Solomon Islands in the competition. Ms. Konifila says it is the biggest delegation to travel with Miss Solomon Islands for the Pacific Islands Pageant.
“This year I am grateful that we have friends who paid for their own way to come and support our Miss Solomon Islands. This will also give moral support for our queen so for that I am really grateful.”
Five contestants namely Miss American Samoa, Miss Nauru, Miss PNG, Miss Samoa, and Miss Solomon Islands are vying for the Miss Pacific Islands Crown.
The 2023 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant crowning night will be held on Friday this week.
