Australia donates ICT equipment to High Court

Australia donated vital ICT equipment to the High Court, National Judiciary on Wednesday.

The equipment included 8 desktop computers and 5 laptops and were provided through the Solomon Islands Australia Justice Program.

Speaking during the handover, Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer thanked Australia for its continuous support towards developing the justice sector.

He added, the provision of equipment was made upon their request for assistance on the smooth transition from paper-based filing to an electronic filing system.  

Sir Palmer emphasized, this will also enable staff to familiarize themselves with the new system following the recent completion of training.  

The Australian High Commission’s Minister Counselor, Lindsay Buckingham assured that Australia will continue to assist the justice sector.

She added, they are confident that the donated equipment will enable the national judiciary to achieve its key objectives.

Aside from supporting the development of e-filing processes, Australia also assisted the consolidation and publication of legislation, including the National Judiciary Autonomy Project.

All of which will enable timely and effective access to justice, building confidence in the justice system, and ensure that all current laws are freely available to citizens.

The finalization of the proposed amendments to the Solomon Islands Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2007 is underway to secure the necessary support for the transition to e-filing court systems.
