PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY TO CELEBRATE 46th INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY ON 07th – 08th JULY
The Coordinating Committee of the Independence Anniversary Celebration is gearing up preparations for the upcoming Country’s 46th Independence Anniversary celebrations on the 07th and 08th of July 2024.
Theme for this year’s Independence Celebrations is “Charting our United and Transformative future together”
The theme was approved by the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, OPMC.
Official events organized for this year’s independence celebrations are; a Thanks Giving Service at Saint Barnabas Cathedral on Sunday the 07th July, and the Independence Anniversary Program at the National Stadium on Monday 08th July 2024.
The Thanks Giving Service will be held at the Saint Barnabas Cathedral starting at 2:00 pm for invited Guests, VIPs and the public. The Honorable Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele will deliver his reflection during the Thanks Giving Service.
On Monday 08th July, two float parades will proceed from the Western and Eastern ends of Honiara to the National Stadium at 6am.
The Eastern float will start at Henderson Police Station in East Honiara whilst the Western float will proceed from Ministry of Infrastructure Development, MID, compound to the National Stadium.
The float parades will be led by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, RSIPF, cultural groups, Government Ministries, members of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries, SICCI, Honiara City Council, HCC, State Owned Enterprises, SOE’s, schools plus invited participating groups for the event.
The main official parade, speeches, honors and awards ceremony, entertainment and the Swearing-in ceremony will be held at the National Stadium.
Anniversary Celebrations this year includes the Swearing-in by the New Governor General Elect who will be taking the Oath of Allegiance and Oath for the due execution of the Office the Governor General.
Solomon Islands New Governor General Elect is Reverend David Tiva Kapu from the Central Islands Province who was elected on Monday 17th June this year.
The official programs will be broadcasted live on radio and online by the National Broadcaster on 07th and 08th July.
Meanwhile, an Entertainment program is also organized for youths and public which will be held at the Honiara Youth Hub at Multi-Purpose Hall area starting on Saturday 06th July to Monday 08th July 2024.
The Entertainment program will feature live band performances from both Gospel and circular music groups, cultural dances and live string band performances.
The Independence organizing committee is encouraging business houses and communities in Honiara to be part of the organized programs.
Communities in the country are also urged to join the celebrations and fly the national colors during the week end of celebrations.
