Malaita celebrates 41st Second Appointed Day in Auki

The Malaita Provincial Government held an official program to mark the provinces 41st Second Appointed Day anniversary in Auki today.

With the theme, ” Empowering Our Diversity through the spirit of unity for a brighter and more inclusive future”, the program saw the attendance of Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, government dignitaries and development partners.

Delivering his keynote address, Prime Minister Manele acknowledged the province for its contribution to nation building.

“ I wish all Malaitans, and friends of Malaita a joyous and peaceful second appointed day celebrations. I wish to acknowledge the contribution of Malaita Province in our nation building. Malaita has been involved in building our beloved nation even before we gained independence.”

” Malaita is well known for all its industrious people. It has produced Prime Ministers, Governor Generals, Speaker of Parliament, Judges, Academics and Many more human resources,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malaita Premier, Hon. Elijah Asilaua said the day is celebrated to reflect on past challenges, to improve for a better  future.

“We gather together to celebrate a significant milestone in the history of Malaita. It is a crucial opportunity for us to reflect on our past and envision a brighter future.

“Over the past 41 years, we have witnessed both honorable achievements and formidable challenges. Today its time for us fellow Malaitans to learn from both our strengths and weaknesses and keep shaping our journey together for our prosperity.”

The Second Appointed day  marks the establishment of the local Provincial Government for the Malaita Province on 15th August, 1983.
