The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has donated livelihood materials to communities in Isabel Province at the Chinese Embassy in Honiara today.
The materials include 2 computers, 40 radios, 40 portable solar power sources, 120 solar lights, and 5 boxes of fishnets.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador His Excellency Cai Weiming expressed hope that the materials will help improve living and working conditions in the province.
“We hope these materials will help improve your living and working conditions.”
“I can see how important these are for you. The Chinese Embassy is willing to offer more help within our capacity to local communities, to bring more tangible benefits to the ordinary people of this country,” he said.
The Ambassador also noted that Isabel Province has a close cooperation with China. Last December, when a delegation from China’s Shandong Province visited the Solomon Islands, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish friendly cooperative relations with Isabel Province.
“This July, Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele paid a state visit to China, and Shandong Province was an important part of his trip.
During that visit, Shandong Province offered to provide more assistance to your province, including scholarships for local students and additional livelihood materials to support Isabel’s social and economic development,” said Ambassador Weiming.
Meanwhile, Gao-Bughotu Constituency Development Committee Secretary, Lyndon Bako conveyed gratitude to the government of China for their generous assistance.
“I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the embassy office in Honiara for their great help and assistance.”
“I feel humbled to receive this precious and valuable gift on behalf of our Member of Parliament, Hon. Trevor Mahaga Hedley, who is currently abroad on an official trip,” he said.
He added that the assistance further cements and strengthens the constituency’s relationship with the PRC.
He also stated that his constituency will greatly benefit from this assistance, especially the rural people who will be the end users of the equipment.
