Niue Senior officials visits Solomon Islands for mid-term review of Intra-Pacific Labour Mobility Pilot Scheme

A team of Senior Officials from the Niue Government visited Solomon Islands this week as part of a mid-term review of the Intra-Pacific Labour Mobility Pilot Scheme between the two countries.

This mid-term review is a precursor to a final assessment scheduled for July 2025, which will focus on identifying ways to enhance the current arrangements and ensure effective management of the labour mobility of semi-skilled and skilled Solomon Islanders to Niue.

In July 2024, the governments of Solomon Islands and Niue signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise the pilot programme.

The MOU facilitates the deployment of retired nurses from Solomon Islands to support the aged care sector in Niue.

Currently, three retired nurses from Solomon Islands are employed in Niue, and the Niue delegation’s visit has resulted in positive feedback regarding their performance.

The Solomon Islands government continues to explore additional opportunities for future cooperation with Niue under this arrangement.
