Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Maelanga, has said, the generosity of modern development assistance means that many projects can be taking place at the same time and often working in the same sector without coordinating their approaches.

Minister Maelanga made this comment, addressing the 2014 Small Islands Developing States, SIDS, in Samoa yesterday.

The Deputy Prime Minister showed his obvious pride when he spoke of a partnership that is “a bold step away from the usual approach” and “a success story in its own right”.

He said, efforts can be duplicated and there can be competition between projects for government counterparts, assistance and resources.

Mr Maelanga said, the Solomon Islands Government is leading the way by utilizing an integrated partnership approach that minimizes these issues.

He adds, Choiseul Province has been chosen as the place to bring together many projects under what has become the Choiseul Integrated Climate Change Programme.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that without this type of partnership, agencies will work in isolation from each other.
