An elder from the Shortland Islands says terminal grants should be paid to parliaments according to merits.

Shortland Elder Ronnie Kidoe made this statement after recent revelations on how the grant was handled, and the other legal matters
surrounding the monies.

Mr Kidoe told SIBC News, Members of Parliament should be paid according to how they contribute towards development in their
constituencies, and to how they implement policies in the country.

He adds, a recent Transparency Solomon Islands report that listed the attendance of MPs at Parliament meetings had shown that only a quarter of them are active participants, while the rest are simply spectators.
