Anti corruption watchdog, Transparency Solomon Islands has called for Parliamentary Entitlements Commission report, regarding the $400,000.00 terminal grants for MPs, to be made public.
The Commission had published a gazette to increase the terminal grants to $400,000.00 on April 1 last year.
In a statement, TSI said the report must be made public to determine whether or not the Parliamentary Entitlements Commission considered factors like the cost of living in Solomon Islands, and other economic considerations.
The Anti-Corruption watchdog also questioned why should MPs receive extremely large amounts of tax payers money after serving for only four years, while public servants who retire from the Public Service leave with only their NPF, or other personal savings.
Transparency Solomon Islands also said the decision to enter politics is a private or personal decision and Members of Parliament should plan for when they exit politics during their tenure.
TSI says tax payers should not fund former MP’s re-election bids or retirements, but should spend the funds on the development of this country for our children and their children.
