The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission will publish a full list of candidates this week.
The Electoral Commission yesterday announced that a total of 443 candidates has been nominated to contest the November 19 National General Election.
The Commission however advised the number may change if the office processes any notice of withdrawal from any candidate.
On the nomination process, Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu says it was conducted in a highly efficient and professional manner.
Following the close of nomination, the Electoral Commission recorded Temotu-Pele as having the most candidates – which was 23 in total.
The Electoral Commission also recorded three constituencies – East Choiseul, South Vella La Vella and Ulawa Ugi – as having the fewest number of contesting candidates, each with three.
The Commission also noted that the total number of candidates for this General Elections is fewer than the 509 candidates who contested the 2010 National General Election.
The Commission says it will publish a full list of candidates this week.
Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission Awareness Program is set to begin in all of the country’s fifty constituencies tomorrow.
Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu says Electoral officers have been in the field over the last few days and are helping Assistant Registration Officers prepare to conduct election awareness talks at the village level.
