Kirakira hospital in Makira Ulawa province and Tulagi Hospital in Central Islands are beneficiaries from the health equipments donated by the New Zealand Government, said Pediatrician Dr James Auto.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) office in Honiara helps facilitate the donation.

Dr Auto told SIBC News in an interview the equipment will support Neonatal Intensive Care services for the hospitals of both provinces.

He said both provinces will each receive an oxygen concentrator.

Dr Auto said Kirakira and Tulagi were chosen to receive the assistance because they are the two most disadvantaged provinces in terms of medical equipment.

SIBC News understands, the assistance was part of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and UNICEF’s target to help women and newborn babies in Solomon Islands.
