NAMUGA MINI HOSPITAL TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH SERVICES

Namuga Mini Hospital in Star Harbour, East Makira will provide a comprehensive level of health services once completed, said Project Coordinator of the hospital, Dr Chris Millar.

He said the health services will include, health promotion and preventative health, general medical services, child health including immunisations – ante-natal care and birthing facilities.

He adds a dedicated tuberculosis ward and diagnostics, radiology and microscopy services, will also be part of the services to be provided at the hospital.

Dr Millar said the objective of the Namuga Mini Hospital are in line with those of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and AusAID, which are to reduce the incidence of maternal mortality; prenatal mortality; childhood mortality for children aged under five, malaria, tuberculosis, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, malnutrition, and domestic violence.

He added the Namuga Hospital Project needs more than $200,000 to be completed.

Meanwhile, more than 30,000 people in and around Namuga in the Star Harbour area, including Santa Ana and Santa Catalina Islands, East Makira, will benefit from the mini-hospital.

SIBC News understands, the hospital is a collaborative effort between SALMAT (Australian company) and Canada as well as Communities in Northern NSW, Australia, individuals of Namuga along with the Ministry of Health, Makira-Ulawa Health authority and the Makira-Ulawa Province.
