Parents and guardians of students studying at Ruavatu Provincial  Secondary School are calling on the School Principal to facilitate a reconciliation ceremony between community leaders surrounding the school following an incident last year.

Reporting SIBC’s north Guadalcanal Stringer, Dudley Gani says this was following one incident which happened at the school towards the end of last year, forcing the school to close early.

He says speaking on behalf of the parents and guardians, north Guadalcanal Chief Eric Manedaghata say the incident is serious, therefore, a traditional reconciliation should be conducted.

“Towards the end of last year 2014 a group of drunken boys from the surrounding communities entered the girls’ dormitory at night and have assaulted and sexually harass some of the female students, which resulted in the closure of the school. Speaking on behalf of the parents and guardians North Guadalcanal Chief, Erick Manezagata said what happened at the Ruavatu Provincial Secondary School last year was serious and the Principal must facilitate with the surrounding community leaders, the provincial member and parliament member of the area a traditional reconciliation.”

SIBC News understands Ruavatu Provincial Secondary School is yet to resume its classes.
