Asia Pacific Representatives gathered in Bangkok: A show of solidarity towards achieving the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on Gender Equality

In a show of solidarity, Civil Society Organizations (CSO) government representatives and advocators of gender equality in the Asia Pacific gathered in Bangkok to reaffirm their commitments towards fully implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action towards Gender Equality.

Ahead of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review set to start on Tuesday, Civil Society and young leaders have convened forums to reflect on the progress made by Asia Pacific Countries Pacific on the Beijing Declaration.

The issues and recommendations from these forums will form part of the agendas to be discussed during the Ministerial conference.

Why does it matter?

The Ministerial Conference on the Beijing +30 Review provides an opportunity for CSOs, young people and government representatives to assess the progress of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action towards Gender Equality.

Held every 5 years, the review will assist in identifying gaps and develop the way forward to achieving gender equality within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Government representatives will deliver their country statements on the progress they made, the challenges and efforts to implement the declarations.

Speaking to journalists at a media training Under Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Armida Alisjahbana said achievements to gender equality varies from country to country.

“Some sub regions are progressive while some are less progressive.”

The Ministerial Conference which will conclude on Thursday will help develop priority actions from the Asia Pacific to speed up the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform.
