A community leader from Berande, North East Guadalcanal Mr Stephen Paeni denies any major assessment done in the area following the flash flood.

Mr Paeni told SIBC News, the area was badly hit by the Berande and Bokokimbo Rivers.

He explains, food gardens and farms were buried and people are left suffering to this very day.

Mr Paeni says it is because of people’s suffering that he requests an assessment team to carry out proper assessment of the extend of damage and provide much needed supplies.

He says, the last time Berande Communities receive some form of assistance was immediately after the flood.

Mr Paeni says, residents are desperate for food assistance now.

Meanwhile, he calls on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development to survey a new road linking the Komukama and Dadae communities..

He says the bridge linking Tutumu to Kokumakama – Dadae have been cut off during the April floods.

Mr Paeni adds, landowners have identified new road routes, but requests MID engineers to conduct a survey on the identified new.
