AUDITOR GENERAL’S OFFICE RELEASED 2014 ANNUAL REPORT
The Office of the Auditor General has presented its 2014 Annual Report to the Speaker of the 10th Parliament.
The report contains audit operation details for 2012 and 2013.
Acting Auditor General Robert Cohen said in a statement, the report discloses details of audits on national government accounts, the nine provincial governments, and 13 state-owned enterprises and statutory authorities.
Mr. Cohen said although his office is responsible for auditing the Honiara City Council accounts, it had not received any financial statements from the Council since 2010.
The report was presented on December 18 last year.
Meanwhile he said in order to promote transparency, the 2014 annual report provides more details than previously on the results of financial statement audits conducted on the state-owned enterprises and statutory authorities, while protecting any commercially sensitive information in the process.
Mr. Cohen adds good quality and timely financial reporting, underpinned by strong internal controls, serves as a solid foundation for encouraging high-quality service delivery to the public.
He said it is hoped, greater public scrutiny of the management issues affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of these organisations will encourage boards and managements, to accelerate their adoption of recommendations from his Office.
