Catholic Teachers Sodality Celebrates Opening Mass at Holy Cross Cathedral

The Catholic Teachers Sodality convened at the Holy Cross Cathedral on Sunday, 25^th Feb 2024, for a solemn Thanksgiving Mass, marking the commencement of another fruitful year of service and devotion within the educational community.

Under the support of the Catholic Education Office, the Catholic Teachers Sodality stands as an example of spiritual guidance and professional support, dedicated to nurturing educators in their vocation as evangelizers.

The Opening Mass, presided over by the esteemed Rev. Fr. James Ere’ai, was a vibrant display of faith and fellowship. Liturgical proceedings were gracefully conducted by the educators of St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School, imbuing the service with a sense of reverence and communal spirit.

In his moving Homily, Fr. James drew inspiration from the Gospel reading (Mk 9:2-10), urging attendees to be mindfulness of God’s calling and prioritize spiritual values over worldly pursuits.

Following the Mass, members of the Sodality assembled at the Holy Cross Cathedral Hall for a brief meeting, where new registrations were welcomed amidst heartfelt remarks from Mr. Abraham, the Catholic Education Secretary. The occasion was further brightened by talks, entertainment performances and feast.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara, encompassing a diverse selection of educational institutions, remains steadfast in its commitment to providing holistic formation rooted in Catholic values. With schools ranging from seminaries to rural training centers, the Archdiocese serves as a bastion of learning and spiritual growth for countless individuals.

Echoing this year’s theme, “Catholic Schools: Centres of Evangelization,” Fr. James urged teachers to live by Christian values when teaching, stressing the need for personal growth before sharing knowledge with students.

Followed by second session led by Peter Woods from the Australian Catholic University, highlighted the crucial role educators play in molding tomorrow’s leaders.

In closing, Mr. Abraham thanked Fr. James for his motivating speech and welcomed both experienced and new members warmly. He emphasized the important role educators play in shaping society and urged them to continue their mission of teaching faith and values in the classroom with determination.
