Celebrating women’s contribution in Solomon Islands’ Public Service

Minister for Public Service Hon. John Junior Tuhaika and Australian High Commission Minister Counsellor Lindsay Buckingham have jointly launched a Women of Influence publication series with four outstanding senior women public servants who have made significant contributions to public service and national development in Solomon Islands.

In the series, Permanent Secretary Susan Sulu, Deputy Secretaries Margaret Moveni and Linda Wate, and Human Resource Manager Hellen Ha’apisi, share their diverse backgrounds and pathways to their careers in the public service.

Their stories showcase their journeys, motivations, sacrifices and challenges they have overcome with the hope to inspire and empower young people, particularly young women and girls, to envision themselves as future leaders.

Speaking at the event, Honourable Tuhaika said he wanted to recognize the remarkable women who serve across all sectors of the public service.

“Their leadership, commitment and dedication are instrumental in maintaining a strong public service that is responsive and inclusive for all Solomon Islanders.”

“I am hopeful that through our partnership with Australia, we will inspire capable women and men to join the public service and contribute to building our country.”

Minister Counsellor Lindsay Buckingham, said Solomon Islands and Australia are proud and long-term partners in building a strong public service in Solomon Islands.

“Through this series we focus on celebrating contributions and leadership in the public service made by women – from shaping policies to delivering critical services, women in the public service play a vital role in delivering good governance to Solomon Islands communities.”

The series was produced by the Solomon Islands-Australia Partnership for Governance and is the first of a series of profiles that highlight the contributions of women and men to the public service in Solomon Islands.
