The Central Islands Provincial Sports Division is gearing up to shape its Ward Sports Associations in a strategic manner.

The province’s acting Sports Coordinator Fred Sauakitai told the local media that his office is considering the role of Ward Sports Associations in sports development and its role.

Mr. Sauakitai said Ward Sports Associations in the Central Islands Province are already established and the current work for his team is to strengthen the link between each sports association and the provincial sports division.

The strengthening program involved activities for the Ward sports presidents to understand the associations’ structure and its role.

He said they are carrying out activities to encourage each ward sports president to liaise closely with the provincial sports division which will provide an avenue for rural sporting groups to voice their needs.
