CENTRAL PROVINCE IDENTIFIED AS POTENTIAL PORT FACILITY SITE

The provincial capital of Central Province has been identified as a potential port facility site.

An international port facilities have been proposed for Tulagi by the Solomon Islands Ports Authority and the Central Provincial Government.

The proposed International facility will be a transhipment port for international cargo liners to the smaller South Pacific Countries such as Tuvalu, Kiribati, Tuvalu.

The Mapuli led-Government took the initiative with the hope that if this Project comes into effect, it would NOT only improve the revenue base of the Province, but also create Job opportunities to Gela, Savo and Russell Islanders.

Mr Mapuli says the latest of the joint meeting agreed to establish a joint committee to oversee major tasks involved.

He adds a term of reference will be developed to guide the operation of the proposed development initiative.

He says underwater survey have also conducted a survey along the coast of Tulagi Harbour to ensure it is safe for boats to come in especially tourist and cargo boats.
