Central Islands Province has postponed its election for a new Premier amid claims one of the candidate’s nomination was invalid.

There were two nominees received for the post, Honourable Patrick Vasuni and Honourable Selwyn Mapuli.

However, Eddie Grant from Tulagi reported honourable Selwyn Mapuli’s nomination was incomplete because Mr Mapuli did not sign an acceptance for his candidacy until after the close of nominations yesterday morning.

Mr Grant says Honourable Vasuni has challenged the legality of Mapuli’s candidacy.

The Speaker has suspended the Premier’s election until he seeks advice from the Attorney General.
