COMPREHENSIVE PREPARATIONS VITAL FOR CREDIBLE ELECTIONS
Legislative change, strong financial support, and early preparations are crucial to achieving free, fair and credible elections – these were factors the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission identified in its post-election workshop last week in Honiara.
Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu said some of the issues identified need legislative review and this requires strong political will from national leaders.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Fred Fakari’i says early planning and strong financial support are key factors for conducting successful elections.
He made the comments at the post-election workshop.
The workshop was held for officials from Makira, Temotu, Rennell and Bellona, Honiara and Guadalcanal provinces.
