CSSI PERFORMED SUCCESSFULLY OVER LAST 10 YEARS: PS SIKUA
The Correctional Services of Solomon Islands (CSSI) has successfully carried out its responsibilities over the last 10 years.
Permanent Secretary of Police and Correctional services Edmund Sikua made this statement during the opening of the new Gizo Correctional centre.
Mr. Sikua explained the CSSI has two roles, one to ensure that our communities are safe from escaped prisoners, and two, responsible for ensuring that prisoners placed in custody are engaged in a rehabilitation program that will assist them to address their criminal behaviour.
He says CSSI is not only about locking up prisoners, but more importantly, it provides an opportunity for people to be transformed through proper rehabilitation programs.
The Permanent Secretary is satisfied, correctional officers in the country have successfully played their roles so far.
“Correctional officers are change agents. Correctional officers should be passionate about changing criminal behaviour to developing people who are placed in correctional centres to become good citizens of our beautiful country. As Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, I am proud to say that CSSI has been performing this dual role very successfully over the last 10 years.”
