D.C.C CALLED ON TO PRIORITISE KIRAKIRA WHARF PROJECT
People of Makira Ulawa Province are calling on the Sogavare-led DCC Government to prioritise the Kirakira wharf project.
Noel Mamau, a community and businessman in KiraKira says for the last 80 years, call for the wharf to be built has received no attention by the colonial government and previous Solomon Islands governments, including the NACRA government.
Mr Mamau says technical and feasibility studies have been carried out many times by the government and agencies like JICA, New Zealand Government and other aid donors.
He says these reports have been shelved because it appears successive governments do not prioritise the economic welfare and development of Makira people.
Mr Mamau stressed Kirakira received five to seven cargo boats weekly and tons of cocoa and copra and timber for backloading- this is sufficient reason for a wharf to be built.
He says Makira Province contributes to the economic development of this nation and the Kirakira Wharf is a master key project that will enable them contribute fully to the economic welfare of this nation.
Mr Mamau calls on the Makira Ulawa members of parliament and MPAs to cooperate and allow economic progress for their people.
