DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER IN INDIA FOR 2nd FIPIC SUMMIT
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Hon. Douglas Ete is currently in India for the second Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).
The Government of India is hosting the Forum.
A government statement said this year’s forum follows the successful summit held in Fiji last year, between India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Pacific Island leaders.
In line with last year’s summit, this year’s meeting will look at strengthening cooperation between Pacific Island states and India.
Meanwhile, the statement said India is seeking to expand its foot print in the Pacific region by pushing for deeper engagement withPacific nations in a range of key areas, including trade and investment.
Among these are sectors like oil and natural gas, mining, IT, healthcare, fishing and marine research besides many other areas.
The Deputy Prime Minister is being accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Private Secretary to Prime Minister and the Director for Foreign Investment.
