East Central Guadalcanal Constituency launches CITREC Programme

East Central Guadalcanal Constituency has officially launched the Canadian International Training & Education Corp (CITREC) Programme at the Mboeni Community High School on Monday.

An agreement was signed between the constituency and the CITREC Programme on August this year, which enables individuals in the constituency to under-go training’s to prepare them for Labour Mobility opportunities in Canada.

The event was attended by communities around the constituency, ward members, the Member of Parliament for East Central Guadalcanal, Hon. Lazarus Rina and Chairman of CITREC and Solomon Islands Honorary Counsel to Canada, His Excellency Ashwant Dwivedi.

Speaking at the launch, Hon.  Rina said the launching marks a significant milestone for the constituency.

” This programme is an important step that the constituency has taken, in partnership with CITREC to provide education and skills training for our people.”

” The management of the programme will be a permanent one, especially in terms of education training and investment in the constituency.”

Applications for the programme are now open for individuals to submit  to the Village Development Committees from the four wards within the constituency.

The committees have been tasked to receive and review applications for further considerations. From the applications, the first cohort of 40 students will be selected from the four wards to under-go a 12- month job-ready training.

Hon. Rina emphasized that selection of applications will be done based on areas of studies and behavior.

” Individuals that are encouraged to apply are those who have completed their senior forms and those who have undertaken tertiary and vocational studies in areas including Agriculture, Tourism and Management.

” Village Development Committees have also been strongly encouraged to select individuals with good behavior and attitudes, as they will not only be representing their families when they go abroad, but the country as a whole,” he said.

During the launch,  His Excellency Dwivedi also announced further improvements to the programme for the constituency.

” As part of the CITREC Programs’ Community and Relationship building, an additional 18 scholarships will be allocated for the constituency to under-go training under the programme.”

” And out of that 18, we will make sure that the selection committee awards 5 scholarships to women as part of women empowerment,” said Dwivedi.

The Honorary Counsel further announced that Mboeni Community High School will become the first ever satellite learning centre for the CITREC Programme in the Solomon Islands.

” We are going to work with our partners in Canada, we are going to work with Star Link, to make sure that we deliver and we provide to you a computer lab, a learning mechanism that is going to be green and environmental friendly.”

SIBC News understands, East Central Guadalcanal Constituency is the second constituency in the country to engage in formal partnership with the CITREC Programme after East Are’are Constituency.
