A team from the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) who participated at the 2016 Trade and Cultural Festival in Buala, Isabel Province has discovered a fake $50.00 note during the festival.

The fake $50.00 note was found when they conduct an exchange of old local currency from the CBSI Stall at the Kodili Trade and Cultural Festival Village last week.

Manager, currency exchange, and banking operation of the CBSI Mr. Joe Vasuni confirmed to SIBC News in Buala.

He said he believe that few fake notes must be in circulation around Buala or within Isabel Province.

Vasuni said the fake paper money might be created from outside Isabel and brought in by travellers.

Meanwhile, Vasuni appeals to the public to check all their notes before exchanging in transactions.

He said people must always look for an eagle’s head at the edge of all currency notes and feel its texture.

The Central Bank of Solomon Islands has participated in this year’s Kodili festival.
