FISHERIES MINISTRY PLANS TO MANAGE BECHE-DE-MER
The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has devised a plan to manage its Beche-de-mer resources.
This is revealed by the Fisheries Minister Hon. Alfred Ghiro in Parliament yesterday.
He says, the beche-de-mer management plan is the brain child of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community adding, a number of member states have adopted the plan.
“SPC is working hard with countries in the region in managing the beche-de-mer fisheries of Pacific Island countries who have this fishery, so it’s becoming a regional issue now and so some countries have gone into managing their fisheries. Solomon Islands will follow suit.”
Minister Ghiro emphasised, the management of beche-de-mer is no longer a national issue but a regional one.
