Four people are confirmed to have died at sea while travelling from Toa to Burungia Village in the Central Province yesterday in a motorised boat.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent Patricia Leta said the four people died when their boat sank in rough seas.

But PPC Leta said, at least 12 peoplesurvived the tragedy. Among them are children and adults.

It is alleged the passengers overloaded the white and orange boat they were travelling in with food items.

The boat’s loading capacity was six passengers only.

Police at Tulagi will open an inquiry and will work closely with relatives of the deceased and the survivors.

The Police reminds the travelling public to follow safety measures before travelling out to sea.
