FSII WELCOMES COURT DECISION ON MP TAXES

Solomon Islands Forum International (FSII) has welcomed the recent decision of the High Court to struck out most of the regulations contained in the Member of Parliaments’ Commission Amended Regulations 2015, declaring them as unconstitutional.
Solomon Islands Forum International Chief Executive Officer Mr. Benjamin Afuga echoed this sentiment.
“We welcome the High Court decision of the Civil Case number 175 of 2015 where the claimants of the case challenged in court the decision of Parliamentary Entitlements Commission on the amendments to the regulations of 2015.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Afuga says the High Court’s decision helps the public including the Forum to have firm trust in the country’s judicial system.
“This paves the way for citizens to challenge national issues or decisions made by national leaders which would affect the people.”
