By Alfred Pagepitu
Governor General, Reverend David Tiva Kapu, has reminded all Members of Parliament to lead the nation as stated in our national motto ‘To Lead Is To Serve’.
He made the call in his speech from the throne in parliament on Monday.
“I would also like to remind us all of our National Motto ‘To Lead Is To Serve’ as we commence our second meeting of the 12th Parliament.”
“May I also remind ourselves of our individual and collective duty of nation-building; we are all Solomon Islanders.”
“And on behalf of the government, I pledge our loyalty to the national anthem and constitution of our beloved nation, Solomon Islands.”
He said that Solomon Islands is fortunate to be blessed with a wealth of diverse culture, natural resources, and a youthful population, which are assets to the country.
“We must be vigilant as custodians of our natural resources and be upstanding mentors to our children and youths,” he said.
Kapu emphasized the significance of shaping the younger generation with the right values and riches, as they are the cornerstone of the country’s future.
He said that the government’s policy of Unity and Transformation is designed to empower the people to participate actively in the economy, and the government’s vision is to achieve unity, transformation, economic development, and prosperity for Solomon Islands.
He added that the government’s mission is to strategically govern and collaborate, nurture sustainable growth, cultivate national solidarity, develop infrastructure, empower the people, safeguard marine resources, and develop the agriculture sector for the betterment of all Solomon Islanders.
