GP set to deliberate on its 2025-2026 budget
By Alfred Pagepitu
The Guadalcanal Provincial Assembly will deliberate on its 2025-2026 budget tomorrow, Wednesday 26 March 2025.
Deliberation on the budget was adjourned today after the statement of Guadalcanal business from the Premier, Willie Atu and an opening remark from the speaker, Peter Aoraunisaka.
The adjournment is to allow the executive to look into the Public Accounts Committee’s report of the budget before it is presented before the assembly.
Provincial Clerk, Edward Juvia confirmed presentation of the budget will be the main agenda for tomorrow’s meeting.
“All the MPAs will come back tomorrow for the first and second reading of the 2025-2026 budget,” Juvia said.
He said the province is expected to pass the budget by Thursday this week.
“Other business will also be added to the order paper as my office and the speaker will finalize it for the sessions of the meeting.”
Juvia said implementation of the proposed budget will focus on improving local governance, delivering development projects and improving the livelihood of the people of Guadalcanal.
He said the upcoming meeting would bring together the 20 elected representatives to discuss key issues, policies, and initiatives that impact the province.
He said the current meeting is expected to conclude on 4 April, 2025.
SIBC News understands that other provincial governments are also deliberating on their budgets.
