Guadalcanal chiefs call for responsible rubbish disposal

Rubbish on the streets of Honiara

Rubbish dumping on the western side of Honiara is increasing, according to chiefs from West and North West Guadalcanal.

The chiefs of Saghalu, Savulei and Tandai said White River and the Kakabona area are the worst affected by rubbish dumping.

They urged the public to respect the areas of North West Guadalcanal and dispose of their waste responsibly.

The chiefs also called on the Honiara City Council to properly manage rubbish disposal in the city.

Honiara is a gateway to the country, but piles of trash are not welcoming sights for tourists, they said.
