HEALTH AUTHORITIES SET TO RESPOND TO FLOOD CRISES
The National Referral Hospital and the public Health Services in Solomon IslandĀ is equipped and capable in responding to the flash flooding crises according to World Health Organization, WHO.
Acting WHO Representative in the country, Audrey Aumua told SIBC News, the Ministry of Health has responded very well to the effects of the flash flood -understanding conditions and designing response strategies to assist vulnerable population.
“The Ministry has responded really well to this by really trying to understand currently the condition that many of our vulnerable populations are and they are designing an immediate response to serve those vulnerable populations. Critical off course is nutrition, making sure those women who are breastfeeding are well-nourished, the children and babies and infants are well-nourished. And so these are things that the Ministry thinks about most days and how to improve an effective delivery od such services to the vulnerable populations.”
Mrs Aumua adds, WHO is in very good terms with the Ministry of Health and other agencies.
She says, the national health leadership is very effective and professional, knowing exactly its response strategies in times of disaster.
