Concerned citizens group, Forum Solomon Islands International, FSII, has praised the Ministry of Health and Medical Service’s plan to fight cervical cancer.

FSII made the statement yesterday after the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Cendric Alependava last Thursday announced a vaccination program to target young girls from 9 -12 years olds to prevent them from getting Human Papilloma Virus, HPV, which causes cervical cancer.

In the statement the FSII Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Afuga says FSII welcome the announcement as it is good to hear the Health Ministry has embarked on a very important life-saving project.

Mr Afuga adds he hopes the Ministry of Health is contagious to ensure it secures funding from the donor to materialize this life-saving program.

SIBC News understands the demonstration program which is funded by Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation will start next year in Honiara and Isabel Province.
