Honiara stun Hornets to go top of group A

The Honiara warriors have beaten Guadalcanal Hornets in a feisty 2-0 win  at Lawson Tama stadium yesterday to go top of group A.

The Host team started well with number attacks against the shaky hornets’ defense, but it was not until the 13th when Arnold Rhody rounded up the keeper to slot the opening goal in.

Guadalcanal hornets had the crowd’s support, also piled in some attempts on goal with midfielder Kevin Seth orchestrating attack from the center and veteran player Michael Patiti having multiple chances on goal.

Honiara continued to pile in more pressure early in the second half but was denied by hands of experienced Guadalcanal keeper, Hendry Pandaverana, who made couple of good saves to deny the warriors strikers.

The second goal came in the 8st minute when the pacy Honiara forward, David Tome intercepted a well taken cross from the left hand side of the pitch to tap the ball in, much to the dismay of the Hornets defense.

With the win, Honiara now tops group A with 6 points, just edging past Central Province on goal difference, who are also on 6 points.

The previous game earlier on saw the Temotu arrows held to a 1 all draw with Choiseul Kuvojo.

Both teams, as expected, couldn’t find the right target in the first half as they head into the dressing room locked at nil all on half time.

John Kamavae opened the scoring early in the second half to send the Kuvojo fans into wild celebrations, but their celebrations was short lived after Fox Pute equalized for the Eastern Solomons side a couple of minutes later.
