Late Sir John Ini Lapli laid to rest

The Fourth Governor General of Solomon Islands, the Late Sir John Ini Lapli GCMG, has been laid to rest at his home village at Luelta, in Santa Cruz, Temotu Province today.

The body of the Late Lapli arrived yesterday afternoon from Honiara and was taken directly to the provincial Chambers, after a short handing over ceremony of the casket from the government house to the Premier of Temotu province, Stanley Tehi.

The late Sir Lapli was welcomed with high crowd at the Lata wharf whilst some waited outside the provincial chambers upon arrival.

At the chambers, the Premier delivered a history of the late Sir Lapli. He described the death of the Late Sir Lapli as a loss not only for Temotu, but the country as a whole.

A short tribute and laying of wreath was then made by the provincial speaker, the premier, his deputy, and members of the assembly and the general public.

The casket was  later transported and officially handed over at the home village of late Sir Lapli  yesterday,  before he was put to  rest around mid-day today.

The late Sir Ini Lapli was born on 1955 and passed away on the 18th of January 2025.
